What are intercoms?

Intercom systems play an important role in home security by allowing residents to see and speak with a visitor before granting them access.

Audio

Audio intercom systems allow residents to speak to visitors through a call station at the home's entry, which is connected to an internal unit that houses a handset and control functions. Once confirming the visitor's identity, residents can allow guests into the home by releasing an electronic door strike which unlocks the door.

Video

Video intercom systems allow residents to visually monitor an entrance as well as speak to visitors via a built-in camera linked to an internal unit which includes a monitor, handset and control functions. Again, residents can release a door strike via the control panel to unlock the front door.

Each user has an intercom handset that communicates with one or more entrance station(s). located beside the main entrance door(s). Visitors press the appropriate entrance station call button for the person that they wish to see. The user can then talk to the visitor and on a digital model can actually see who is at the door via the monitor on the handset. Pressing a button on the handset will unlock the door for the visitor and optionally authorise an elevator to come to the correct floor.
